The Magic Chalk
On the night of Diwali, in a little Indian town, a young girl found a magical piece of chalk that fell from the sky...
When I was a kid, my big brother used to read to me the story of Ma Liang and his Magic Brush almost nightly. I think this Chinese tale inspired me to study animation and pursue a career in illustration.
In 2010, I reinterpreted Ma Liang's fascinating story and transferred it to India, the country that I'm passionate about, and made a 2D animation out of it for my Master degree.

THE JOURNEY
I produced and presented this short animation movie in order to obtain my Master degree in Animation and Multimedia while finding the good balance between my ambition and the time-consuming technique.
MY ROLE: Realisation, Scenario, Storyboard, Animatic, Concept Art, Character Design, Animation, FX, Compositing.
INSPIRATION: The Chinese popular story Ma Liang and his Magic Brush, The Princess and the Frog from Disney, Tekkonkinkreet Japanese Manga and Devdas Bollywood.

AN ORIGINAL MUSIC & SOUND:
One of my favorite parts of the project was being able to record the music with a professional. Guillaume Thevenin, sound engineer from Cryogène Prod Studio, and Francis Passicos who made the Original Music, agreed to participate for free. Francis is a multi-instrumentalist who specializes in Indian instruments. I met him through Esprit Metis. After that project, we kept on collaborating. I created original illustrations and a poster campaign for his musical show for children.
OUTCOME:
The movie was played during special events in two different theaters and during tree Optym's company lunch.
